Mexico City has achieved a milestone by becoming the world capital of mariachi during the First World Mariachi Congress, organized by the National Chamber of Commerce, Services, and Tourism (Canaco-Servytur) in the Zócalo. One thousand one hundred and twenty-two mariachis gathered to sing in chorus "Cielito lindo" at an event led by Jesús Rodríguez, president of the Chamber, which paid tribute to Mexican music and tradition.
Under the direction of Fernando de Santiago, the musicians performed classics such as "Son de la negra", "Cielito lindo", "El Rey", and the official theme of the congress, "With the soul of the mariachi". The Government Secretariat of Mexico City reported that a new World Record was set for the largest number of mariachis performing Mexican music in the capital's Zócalo.
The event was attended by authorities such as José de Jesús Rodríguez Cárdenas, president of Canaco CDMX; César Cravioto Romero, government secretary; and Alessandra Rojo de la Vega, mayor of Cuauhtémoc. Additionally, the contestants of the Miss Universe pageant joined the mariachis to sing and dance near the flagpole.
Alejandro Pasos, Secretary General of the Heroes of the Revolution Union, shared his excitement for participating in this historic moment. He expressed his gratitude to the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce for promoting spaces that strengthen cultural identity and emphasized the importance of preserving mariachi music and Mexican roots.
